DISTURBED To 'Reinvent' Themselves On Upcoming CD.... - Apr. 15, 2005 DISTURBED frontman David Draiman recently spoke to MTV.com about the recording process for their third album, tentatively due early summer. "It's been a process, man," he said. "We don't want this one to sound anything like what we've done, and it's always hard to reinvent yourself and come up with something that doesn't borrow elements from what you've already created. It can be very taxing." Draiman insists DISTURBED's still-untitled new record is their angriest, most unrepentant offering to date. It's equally energized by feelings of betrayal, frustration and alienation. "The lyrics push in many different directions, but they're united in their anger," the singer said. "For example, 'Hell' is about a relationship with someone who keeps coming in and out of your life, and every time they come back they f--- up your whole world. 'Decadence' is about how difficult it is to live a decadent lifestyle, the effect it has on you and what it does to your soul. They're different ... but they're both really pissed off." So far, DISTURBED have finished 13 tracks. They plan to record seven more and select 13 for the final cut. One track that has been confirmed is a cover of GENESIS' '80s pop classic "Land of Confusion". The song seems like a strange choice in contrast to the relentless barrage of the other tracks, and it contradicts a claim Draiman made after DISTURBED covered TEARS FOR FEARS' "Shout" on their debut. "I know I said I would never do another cover, but I guess I lied," the singer said. "Just wait until you hear it. We took the synth beat out and riffed it up and chunked it up so it's heavy as f---. Basically, we took all the pop out, and what's cool is that the lyrics are so appropriate for today's times." Read more at MTV.com. -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. CROWPATH To Enter Studio In August.... - Apr. 15, 2005 Swedish metalcore act CROWPATH will enter Berno Studios (THE HAUNTED, DEFLESHED, GOD DETHRONED, AMON AMARTH, KAAMOS) in Malmö, Sweden on August 12 to begin recording their sophomore album, tentatively due in early 2006. The follow-up to 2004's "Red on Chrome" will feature such cuts as "Pigeonsmasher" and "The Will to Burn", CROWPATH's full-length debut, "Red on Chrome", was issued last spring via the Pittsburgh, Pa.-based metal label Willowtip Records. The 13-track, 30-minute CD was recorded by Fredrik Reinedahl (IN FLAMES, BURST) at Phlat Planet Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden. -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. KORN: New Album To Feature Guest Appearance By Rapper THE GAME.... - Apr. 15, 2005 Producer Dallas Austin (MADONNA, TLC, GWEN STEFANI, PINK, JANET JACKSON, BOYZ II MEN) has told MTV.com that his collaboration with KORN, which should see release either later this year or early next, will hold at least a few surprises for the band's trusty fans — including one of hip-hop's hardest on guest vocals. "We've actually done a song that THE GAME will be rapping on," Austin revealed. THE GAME will join KORN in the studio next month to lay down his rhymes. Five tracks have been recorded so far, Austin said, and the remainder of the album's material has been written, just not recorded. "They looked at everything they have done and said, 'What else can we do now?' " said Austin, who got a personal call from frontman Jonathan Davis to pitch him the production gig. The band wanted to try something different with this record and felt Dallas was the perfect person to help them realize that goal. "In an era where it's really hard to play rock and roll — especially hip-hop rock, which they kind of pioneered, but then everything got oversaturated — Jonathan thought, 'How can we rekindle it?' " Austin said. "The stuff you're going to hear from us, it's just great rock stuff — really heavy," Austin explained. "As a producer, I don't come in and bring my thing. I come and work with what's there. I just try making whatever I work with as vivid as possible for what we're doing. Some of the stuff, it's really dark. You'll hear beats underneath it, but it's still really guitar-heavy. I didn't bring them into my world — I just produced KORN. I think [people will] be surprised to hear what we did." SLIPKNOT: Go Behind The Scenes On 'Subliminal Verses Tour'.... - Apr. 15, 2005 Fuse's "Uranium", currently sponsoring the monstrous "Subliminal Verses Tour" featuring SLIPKNOT with special guests LAMB OF GOD and SHADOWS FALL, will give fans a look at SLIPKNOT like they’ve never seen before. On Friday, April 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET, "Uranium" host Juliya gets a tour of the whole stage show with percussionist Chris Fehn, a first-person look at the death-defying drum solo of Joey Jordison, a view from above the madness with DJ Sid at his turntables, and an in depth conversation with frontman Corey Taylor as they walk through an empty arena awaiting the madness of the maggots. The show also features interviews with LAMB OF GOD and SHADOWS FALL. Juliya gets a lesson in whipping from Randy Blythe (singer of LAMB OF GOD) and a look into the “glamorous life” on the road, as SHADOWS FALL shows her what it takes to be an opening band on their first arena tour. You'll also see exclusive live performance footage of all three bands that you won’t see anywhere else! In addition to the show premiering Friday, "Uranium" has posted on their web site an additional video package tied to a "watch and win" contest. Four members of SLIPKNOT gave Juliya something personal that "Uranium" wants to give away to some lucky fans. The Grand Prize will be a limited-edition autographed vinyl album from Sid that you can only get from his hands, and a drumstick from Joey. The runner-up prize will be Corey's personal hair scrunchie, and 30 cents from Chris (which teh "Uranium" press release claims "is the actual 30 cents from him, and has not replaced by the staff — HONESTLY!!"). For more information, go to "Uranium"'s web site at www.fuse.tv and watch the teasers posted online. -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. STAIND: New Single Due In June.... - Apr. 15, 2005 The first single from the new album by STAIND will tentatively begin showing up at rock radio stations the first week of June, according to Launch Radio Networks. Although the title of the track has yet to be announced, a song called "Right Here" has been rumored as a possible candidate. The new STAIND record, titled "Chapter V", may follow in July. The album's release will reportedly wait until after singer Aaron Lewis's wife gives birth to their new baby, which is due in May. Tour plans are also contingent on the time of the baby's arrival. Guitarist Mike Mushok recently told Launch that "Chapter V" is STAIND's most varied offering yet. "I think the songs are way more diverse than anything we've done," he said. "There's stuff that's a lot heavier than the last record, and there's stuff that's a lot lighter too. I mean, we really kind of tried to get as diverse as possible." -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. GREEN CARNATION To Headline Toronto's DAY OF THE EQUINOX Festival.... - Apr. 15, 2005 Norway's GREEN CARNATION will be making their North American debut as headliner at the Day Of The Equinox festival on Friday, October 14 at The Opera House in Toronto, Canada. Other groups expected to appear at the festival incude Oregon's moody/atmospheric act AGALLOCH and Montreal's ambitious UNEXPECT. A co-headliner and other special guests will be announced in mid-May. GREEN CARNATION's founder/guitarist Tchort commented: "GREEN CARNATION is overwhelmingly excited about this inter-continental show in Toronto and are preparing a unique live set for such a special occasion. We think it's fair to say that those who attend will see GREEN CARNATION give its most progressive and atmospheric show EVER! Since it's our first show over there, we find it to be vital that we cover the material from all our three latest albums. That means we have three hours of music to choose from. We don't want to reveal the whole live show, but we can tease you a bit and say that we decided to do an extended live set to include a major part of 'Light of Day, Day of Darkness', as well as material from 'Blessing in Disguise' and 'The Quiet Offspring'. This will be a special event from us to you." For more information, visit www.dayoftheequinox.com. -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. VELVET REVOLVER Begin Work On Material For Sophomore Album.... - Apr. 15, 2005 ABC ePrep reports: VELVET REVOLVER recently kicked off their Electric Wonderland Show tour, and their next show is tonight at the Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara, California. This tour marks VELVET REVOLVER's first arena tour, and frontman Scott Weiland says that it's a challenge to bring an intimate quality to a large venue. He says that VELVET REVOLVER solves the problem by keeping the stage smaller because, "if you enlarge the stage too much, we found that the band doesn't play as a band any more — you start playing as individuals...So, we sort of keep the stage smaller, just so we perform as a band." Guitarist Slash says that VELVET REVOLVER has started to work on the follow-up to their hit debut album, "Contraband", and as he puts it, "We're making arrangements to take, whenever we have some time off, to go in and start pre-production and do this thing, 'cause everybody's really excited about it." -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. KEEP OF KALESSIN To Release New Album In September.... - Apr. 15, 2005 Norwegian black metallers KEEP OF KALESSIN, featuring Obsidian C. (a.k.a. Arnt Grønbech, also a touring guitarist for SATYRICON) on guitars/bass/synth, will be entering the studio on May 2 to begin recording their new album, "Armada", tentatively due in September via the Norwegian label Tabu Recordings, a division of Tuba Records. Vyl will be playing the drums on the album and a new bass player, Wizziac, will be introduced. MAYHEM singer Attila Chisar will be doing some additional vocals, but he will not be the frontman anymore. The band will try out different vocalists in the studio to find the one who matches the music best. The group's complete lineup will be revealed when the recording sessions are completed. Regarding the musical direction of the new CD, the band write in their web site, "The material is said to take guitar riffing to a new level by playing 4-5 different harmonies on the same guitar at the same time! All this in ultra-speed! The album will be of epic art and is symphonic black metal as it should be with symphonic guitar riffing, not based on synth." Commented Obsidian C.: "I'm not looking forward to recording this album. Don't get me wrong though....I'm looking forward to the day it's finished, but not the actual recording sessions! This is the hardest thing I have ever tried to play on a guitar. I don't even know why I make this stuff, but I guess it's the end result that really drives me. It may sound easy for the listener because it's not 'technical made' just to sound technical. I want to have epic songs with great atmosphere and great flow through a song. And then when you start to really listen to what's going on you discover the details and strange chord work." KEEP OF KALESSIN's most recent mini-album, "Reclaim", was released in December 2003 through FaceFront Records. The group's first release since 1999's "Agnen: A Journey through the Dark" (Avantgarde), "Reclaim" has been described as a new milestone in Norwegian black metal by the Norwegian press. "Reclaim" is available in the U.S. through The End mail-order. -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. NAGLFAR To Release 'Pariah' In July.... - Apr. 14, 2005 Swedish black metal titans NAGLFAR's new beast, "Pariah", will be unleashed in the U.S. July 12 via Century Media Records. The follow-up to 2003's "Sheol", "Pariah" is described in a Century Media press release as "a flawless work of iniquitous hell-spawned art filled with raging guitar riffs, bludgeoning drums, demonic vocals, that combine with haunting melodies to capture hell's eternal depravity. Battle axemen guitarists Andreas Nilsson and Marcus Norman return with their triumphantly vicious six-stringed assault, while drummer Mattias Grahn relentlessly drives the band's frenetic attack. Assuming vocal duties is founding member and bassist Kristoffer Olivius replacing Jens Rydén, who left for job-related reasons. Returning to Ballerina Studios in hometown Umeå, Sweden, where their two previous releases, 'Sheol' and 'Diabolical', were recorded, NAGLFAR have again imprisoned a monstrous leviathan. Ralph Manfreda (PUNGENT STENCH, BELPHEGOR) provides impious artwork that turns the aural assault into visual onslaught." Currently touring Europe with FINNTROLL and AMORAL, NAGLFAR will also be appearing this summer at Germany's eminent Wacken Open Air and Finland’s Tuska metal festival. -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. BLIND GUARDIAN Sign With NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS.... - Apr. 14, 2005 Nuclear Blast has announced the addition of a new member to the family — BLIND GUARDIAN. One of the most significant and successful international power metal bands who "reinvented classic metal for a younger audience" according to Metal Edge, the trademarked BLIND GUARDIAN experience is described as a "larger-than-life sound which incorporates the harmonies and drama of QUEEN with an aggressive, modern sensibility" by Billboard magazine. Regarding the long-term signing, BLIND GUARDIAN singer Hansi Kürsch happily shares, "Our long search for the perfect record company has ended. We finally were lucky to find the ultimate home — Nuclear Blast! Some things you decide with your head, other things you deal with on a gut level. The decision for Nuclear Blast was both! We placed great emphasis on finding a partner that knows the world of heavy metal and does business in an unconventional manner, if necessary. Nuclear Blast can offer both of these key qualities, and proved so time and time again in the past. "But this alone would not be enough, if the chemistry wasn't there, but our first meetings could only be described as: 'We came, ate, and laughed…' Our views on music in general and BLIND GUARDIAN in particular are almost identical! The whole Nuclear Blast team impressed us a lot with their unity and the huge identification with their mission and the expansion of the metal world. Now we have the unique chance to follow our musical vision in the perfect environment. We expect a lot, and so do Nuclear Blast. Let's roll! The GUARDIAN comes home!" Nuclear Blast label manager and A&R head Andy Siry is equally thrilled. "We are all very happy about the amount of trust BLIND GUARDIAN has put in us. The beginning of this cooperation will surely prove to be very productive and fruitful. Our distribution partners and the whole of Nuclear Blast are ready to kick ass!" -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. JOE PERRY To Play Single Show In New York City To Launch Solo Album.... - Apr. 14, 2005 Launch Radio Networks is reporting that AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry is getting ready for a special concert in New York City next month. His self-titled solo album comes out two days earlier, on May 3, and he's going to play the Webster Hall club on May 5 to launch it. As of now, it's the only show he's announced. Perry told Launch that he had some ideas about a short tour, but it just didn't work out, so this New York City event is the next best thing. "I'd thought about doing that at first, but I, I think that it's gonna take up too much time, so I'm gonna give this a real good kick-off party, and with the help of the record company, we're gonna have some fun with that in New York, and then it's gonna be off on its own," he said. AEROSMITH is nearing the end of their year-long break, so Perry will rejoin his mates for a lengthy tour starting in late September or early October. The band will also release a live album at that time. -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. DISTURBED Drummer Says DIMEBAG's Murder Has Cast Shadow Over Live Performing.... - Apr. 14, 2005 DISTURBED drummer Mike Wengren, a close friend of late DAMAGEPLAN/PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and his brother, DAMAGEPLAN/PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul, told Launch Radio Networks that the onstage shooting of Abbott has cast a shadow over live performing. "I think one of the most scariest things is, you go up onstage, and there's this energy transfer between the band and the crowd, and you almost feel invincible. You feel very empowered," he said. "Never in a million years would anyone ever think something like that was even possible, and I think it just caught everyone off guard. It's pretty scary." Nathan Gale, the disturbed ex-Marine who shot and killed Abbott and three others at a DAMAGEPLAN concert in Columbus, Ohio on Dec. 8, 2004, was killed by a police officer during the incident at the Alrosa Villa nightclub. A second DAMAGEPLAN album, as well as other previously unreleased material featuring Abbott, may surface sometime in the near future. -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. SYSTEM OF A DOWN: New Album Unveiled At NYC Listening Session.... - Apr. 14, 2005 Launch Radio Networks reports: SYSTEM OF A DOWN held an exclusive preview of "Mezmerize", the first half of SYSTEM OF A DOWN's new double-CD set, Wednesday night (April 13) in New York City. The listening session for the record were held at a hotel in the city's downtown Soho district. The second half of the "Mezmerize/Hypnotize" project, titled "Hypnotize", is due out sometime this fall. "Mezmerize" features ten songs, plus one short intro, that for the most part echo the manic, eccentric feel of the band's 1998 self-titled debut. With the exception of the closing track, a haunting ballad called "Lost In Hollywood", much of the album pummels the listener with frantic riffs, stop-on-a-dime tempo changes, and staccato vocal trade-offs between singer Serj Tankian and guitarist Daron Malakian. But there are stylistic touches, like keyboards and the band's trademark Eastern influences, that keep the fast-moving album from becoming one-dimensional. Other highlights include first single "B.Y.O.B.", the almost danceable "Revenga", and the New Wave-inspired "Old School Hollywood". "Mezmerize" arrives in stores on May 17. SYSTEM OF A DOWN will stage its annual Souls benefit, in memory of Armenian genocide victims, on April 24 at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. A full North American tour is tentatively slated for August and September. -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. DAVE MUSTAINE: METALLICA Documentary Proves LARS ULRICH Is 'Mental'.... - Apr. 14, 2005 MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine recently spoke to The Sydney Morning Herald about his ongoing "feud" with METALLICA, the nerve injury to his arm that brought his career to a halt, and the band's most recent album, "The System Has Failed". A few excerpts from the interview follow: On METALLICA's "Some Kind of Monster" documentary, in which he makes an appearance: "If you see that METALLICA movie you can't walk away without thinking Lars is mental. I am over [Ulrich]. He's ancient history." "Hey, what about what METALLICA and Lars did to [Internet file-sharing company] Napster and the kids? Took them to court. You see the reaction. "That just shows what kind of people they are, when the kids start deserting them." On the nerve injury to his arm that brought his career, and that of the-then 19-year-old MEGADETH, to a halt: "I'm a fighter. I don't quit. I'm probably going to record when I'm dead 'Live from his coffin'." "I really did fall asleep on [my arm]. I had my arm hanging over the back of a chair and just dozed off. When I went to get up I found the nerve had been pinched off, like a drinking straw being compressed. It was one millimetre at that moment and it had to grow back to four millimetres. I had a specialist tell me that because of the associated electrical problems I would never play guitar again and only regain 80 per cent use of of my arm. "So the band broke up. But I just said to myself, 'I'm going to play again.' When I was better I realised I owed the previous record company a record, so I thought, 'Hmm, I'll dust off MEGADETH.' "If you want to know what Dave Mustaine 'solo' sounds and feels like, just dust off MEGADETH. I mean, I've always been MEGADETH." On reverting to his original approach to music on "The System Has Failed". "I could do 'Rust in Peace' again, but I don't want to. I could have followed that formula but, God, why? I would have to have done so much heroin and cocaine — and I wasn't going to. Not if I'm paying for it!" -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. SILVERSTEIN COMPLETE NEW ALBUM, TOUR WITH FALL OUT BOY,... ANNOUNCE TOURING PLANS IN THE U.K., AUSTRALIA AND ON WARPED TOUR The New Album: Silverstein are pleased to announce the completion of their new album and a plethora of great tours for spring and summer. After spending the month of March at Maple Studios in Orange County and Los Angeles’ legendary Capitol studios with Cameron Webb, they finished their new album, “Discovering The Waterfront”. The album is the follow up to their successful Victory debut, “When Broken Is Easily Fixed”, which has sold in excess of 100,000 copies to date. The band chose Cameron Webb to produce in part because of his diverse history, working with bands like Social Distortion, Motorhead, Sum 41 and Ben Folds Five. Paul explained, “Silverstein has such a wide range of influences that we were hoping to find a producer who could appreciate them all instead of focusing on one or two aspects of the band.” The album was named “Discovering The Waterfront” by the band as a way of expressing their sense of how one’s perspective can change over time. Here are some thoughts from the band on its meaning: “The waterfront is a place where everything ends and begins, depending on which way you look at it and how you believe. It’s a place where people can reflect on themselves and their lives. Everyone experiences a dramatic time in their life where everything they know has fallen apart, but looking forward seems like the end of the world. But over time, you realize that the new direction that you were forced to sail down was not the end of the world and what once looked like nothingness ended up appearing as something new.” “Discovering the Waterfront” is due in stores August 9th, 2005. -----SOURCE: Heather West. TWISTED SISTER Frontman Discusses 'Matzo and Metal' VH1 CLASSIC Special.... - Apr. 14, 2005 The New York Post reports that TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider joined three Jewish rockers — MOUNTAIN's Leslie West, ANTHRAX's Scott Ian and SISTER bandmate JJ French — for VH1 Classic's "Matzo and Metal: A Very Classic Passover", which airs April 24, the second night of Passover. West leads the service, reading from the Haggadah's ritual text. ("Haggadah? What's Haggadah with you?" jokes Snider.) As a metalhead, Snider particularly enjoyed hearing about the 10 plagues: "I got all excited going through the boils . . . I thought we were gonna start smearing lamb's blood around." Passover celebrates the trials and triumphs of Jews enslaved in ancient Egypt; the musicians discuss their own trials and tribulations as artists. Asked to recall one, Snider says, "Well, I was never a slave. Yes, I was. I was signed to Atlantic Records!" Snider also learned that tattoos are taboo for Jews: "You can't be buried in a Jewish cemetery if you're tattooed." Would his anthem-like "We're Not Gonna Take It" have helped Moses lead the Jews out of Egypt sooner? "The problem with 'We're Not Gonna Take It' is, it comes from me singing in the church choir 'til I was 19," he says. "It bears a remarkable resemblance to 'O Come, All Ye Faithful'." "So I think Moses would have gone, 'Wait a minute. That's a goyish tune. We can't sing that!'" -----SOURCE: Blabbermouth.net. |
